The Premier Issue of Designer Dolls Magazine came out in July of 1999 - and the fashion doll customizing world came alive!
Although contraversial in ways, Designer Dolls was enjoyed by customizers all over the world. Their art was finally recognized with the respect that other magazine had ever given them. It was for adults - that was clear, with the rather risque adventures of Agatha Dish, Dolly Detective, the earthy character of Sexy Sadie, and some of the articles included by Dolly Hearsay and the artists themselves.
Love it or not, Designer Dolls Magazine recognized, promoted and loved the customizing artists of the fashion doll world and wasn't afraid to tell the world their stories. Out of it even came the most famous customized doll of them all - Agatha Dish, Dolly Detective, with her own photo-comic strip in every issue and eventually her own photo-comic book!
